The woodland creation grant is for a 2 year capital works programme to plant and protect young trees. You can apply for this grant all year round. (This is a complicated application process – the team at DR are here to help.)
The CS Woodland Creation Grant is a capital grant, where applicants can apply for one-off payments for the trees which will be planted and any associated protection items and support towards infrastructure to help the establishment of new woodland using capital item FY2: woodland infrastructure.
If an application is successful, the applicant has 2 years to purchase and plant/install these capital items, and a further 3 months to submit their payment claim. Once the woodland is planted and the final capital claim is paid, eligible applicants can apply for a separate multi-year grant to maintain the newly created woodland for 10 years of £200 per hectare. This support is called Woodland Creation Maintenance Grant and is part of the Countryside Stewardship Higher Tier. This is for the ongoing maintenance of the trees after they’ve been planted. Before you can be invited to apply for this grant (through Higher Tier) you must have met the objectives of the woodland creation grant capital works agreement, and have had your final claim for that agreement approved. The deadline for this application will be given with the application form.
Use the manual (see link below) to understand:
- the eligibility requirements
- how to apply
- the payments you could receive
- the rules and conditions for the scheme
Deadlines: No official deadlines but final agreements must be in place by 31.12.2020 with applications taking up to 5 months to process.
