From humble beginnings in 2015 baking flapjacks at home for sale at festivals, Carol and Sally have grown their business ‘Flapjackery’ into a thriving wholesale and retail business.
The DR Company supported Sally and Carol in successfully applying for funding from the Greater Dartmoor Local Enterprise Action Fund (GD LEAF) to help them develop their booming luxury flapjack business. Carol and Sally began their business in their own home kitchens in Tavistock, and the funding they were successfully awarded has enabled them to buy kitchen equipment and move into a small industrial unit to continue to expand their business.
Flapjackery now employ twelve people and have opened a shop in Tavistock. They have also expanded to more than double their workspace. Their diary has also expanded hugely from two to three events a week to some weeks as many as seven or eight events. (Pre – Covid19 )
Flapjackery only produce flapjacks that are made with British butter, British oats and the finest luxury ingredients. They are all gluten free, and there is a range of vegan flapjacks available too. The flapjacks are sold at events and festivals, online through their website and are also available as wholesale. (www.flapjackery.co.uk)
Sally explains: “We had never applied for funding before and the Diverse Regeneration Company helped us with our application for the funding from the Greater Dartmoor LEAF programme. It was a real help to have a friendly and knowledgeable team to guide us in our application, and to go on and successfully gain funding, which helped us improve our kitchen equipment and boosted the business enormously. We are very proud to be flying the flag for local Dartmoor businesses and extremely grateful to the DR Company for all their expert support throughout the funding process.”
Sophie Price, Project Advisor at the DR Company explains why the company are so proud to have helped this local business: “Flapjackery are a fabulous example of the thriving small businesses that exist in rural areas and the money Sally and Carol received via GD LEAF funding has ultimately created new jobs and added to the growth of the local rural economy. This is exactly the type of applicant and project we are proud to support.”
