South Hams Coastal Community Team

The Government’s aims in establishing local Coastal Community Teams are:

  • To encourage greater local partnership working in coastal areas
  • To support the development of local solutions to economic issues facing coastal communities
  • To establish a network of teams across England who can work together, and with the Government, to tackle the issues faced by coastal communities
  • To encourage the sustainable use of heritage/cultural assets to provide both a focus for community activities and enhanced economic opportunities

Who will be involved?

The Government anticipates that Coastal Community Teams will consist of individuals and organisations who have an understanding of the issues facing their coastal community area and who can develop an effective strategy for success. This will include:

  • The coastal community’s Local Authority
  • Local people and businesses
  • Relevant local/national charities

Previous Coastal Community Funding

South Devon Fishing Industry Development Fund (SDFID)

In 2012, the DR Company successfully coordinated a partnership involving South Hams District Council, South Devon Coastal Local Action Group and representatives of the fishing industry in South Devon to plan a South Devon Fishing Industry Development Programme, of which DR became the Project managers. The SDFID was funded by Coastal Communities funding and ‘South Devon Fish’ became the information hub for all the projects and businesses DR supported through their work on the South Devon Fishing Industry Development Programme.

SDFID aimed to help fishing industry projects in South Devon to grow business turnover, promote local fishing, increase sales of seafood and sustain local jobs.
