LEADER : A European funding scheme offering grants to support rural business and community development
What are Local Action Groups (LAGs)?
A Local Action Group brings together individuals from local public, private and civil societies who put together a local plan for development (Local Development Strategy) to tackle important local priorities in a locally specific, innovative and participative way. Local Action Groups cover specific geographic areas, which are not related to local authority boundaries, but may be based on other areas of local distinctiveness.
TWO FUNDING PROGRAMMES MANAGED BY THE DR COMPANY
1. Greater Dartmoor Local Area Enterprise Fund (GD LEAF) 2015 – 2020
The programme has successfully allocated all available funds and is now currently closed to new applications. If further funds become available updates will be shared on our news & funding page.
The Greater Dartmoor LEAF Programme received over £2.5m of funding for the Greater Dartmoor area for the period 2015-2022. This rural grant programme for Dartmoor and its hinterland focussed on the creation of jobs and growth. Its main areas of support included:
Farming – support for farm diversification / increasing productivity
Forestry – support for increasing productivity and processing
Enterprise – creation or development of micro and small businesses
Tourism / Rural Services / Cultural & Heritage activity
The Local Development Strategy for 2015-20 gives more detail on delivery of these priority areas.
The programme is managed by The DR Company with grant decisions being made by the GD LEAF Partnership Board which consists of a wide range of public, private and social enterprise representatives including the Dartmoor National Park Authority.
2. South Devon Coastal LAG
In 2015, The DR Company was awarded £2.0m of European Union money for allocation in the South Devon Coastal Local Action Group area – covering the coastline between Exeter and Plymouth.
This money has been allocated and the programme is not open to new applications at this time. Any future opportunities will be shared on our news & funding page.
The South Devon Coastal LAG was set up by local people in 2008, with help from The DR Company. The intention was to bring new money into the South Devon Coastal area to support a broad range of projects and activities that develop and improve the local area: creating jobs, helping businesses become more profitable, providing local facilities and enhancing the local environment.
The DR Company team use their expertise and experience to guide applicants through the South Devon Coastal LAG application process from start to finish.
The aim for the 2015-2022 South Devon Coastal LAG programme was to create jobs, assist business growth and benefit the rural economy for farming and forestry businesses, local businesses, start-ups and social enterprises.
